Essentially, I believe that the 16th century astronomer, Tycho Brahe, might be consider the first data scientist. In the late 16th century, the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) established two observatories on the island of Hven, near Copenhagen. This section from Jean Blaeu’s Grande Atlas, from the French version issued in 1663, describes and illustrates Brahe’s astronomical instruments. He yielded to Kepler, all his astronomical data with the responsibility of demonstrating the validity of Tycho Brahe's model of the universe versus that of Nicholas Copernicus. Tycho Brahe's Astronomical Inventions Tycho Brahe One of his greatest achievements is the observation (naked eye) of the SN 1572 supernova on 11 November 1572 which had unexpectedly appeared in the constellation Cassiopeia. Se hela listan på study.com Tycho Brahe was a larger than life aristocratic astronomer whose observations became the foundation for a new understanding of the solar system and ultimately gravity. Brought up by an uncle who had kidnapped him, Tycho defied both his natural and foster parents to become a scientist rather than a nobleman at the Royal Court. A Danish nobleman, Tycho Brahe (1546-1601), made important contributions by devising the most precise instruments available before the invention of the telescope for observing the heavens. Brahe made his observations from Uraniborg, on an island in the sound between Denmark and Sweden called Hveen. With Steen Bille’s financial help Tycho Brahe built a laboratory at Herrevad Abbey where he invented an improved technique for manufacturing of paper and very soon started producing the material in Klippan Mill, located nearby. Later, he also helped in erecting a glasswork in the Abbey.

Tycho Brahe's Books Some historians have made strong claims about the role of the printing-press in the transformation of the sciences during the Renaissance, and Tycho Brahe, as an astronomer who controlled his own printing-press, has attracted particular attention. But Tycho was not the first astronomer-printer. 2017-03-02 It is in that world of scientific discovery that we find the inventions of Tycho Brahe. Brahe Enjoyed Studying the Heavens One of the great passions that Tycho Brahe had was to observe the heavens, especially the night sky. Brahe invented many instruments such as the Tyconian Quadrant which were widely copied and led to the invention of improved observational equipment. In 1600, Tyco Brahe hired Johannes Kepler as his assistant. In later years, Kepler would use Brahe's work as the basis for the laws of planetary movement which he developed.
